WEED SPRAYING
My name is Jeff Griffi ths and I run a wildlife
management company that under goes
specialised spraying work in order to
control weeds and vegetation in a variety
of circumstances.
Spraying is a very specialised task. If it is
done wrongly the effects on health and
safety to personnel, pets or livestock can be very high. If the chemicals used are handled
in an irresponsible manner then it can have
either immediate damaging or long term
implications upon the environment.
Rules and regulations are constantly being
reviewed and updated. Selecting a correct
herbicide, then applying it in a professional
manner and washing down afterwards is of
vital importance to anyone responsible for
grounds maintenance.
Some of the common jobs that I undertake:

Clover or broad leafed weeds on sports
grounds or pitches. |

Weeds on concreted areas, pathways and
road sides. |

Nettles, docks, thistles, etc. on horse
paddocks or agricultural land. |

Quad bike spraying (with fl otation tyres
to reduce tyre marks) equipped with 4.5
meter boom and spot sprayer. Can also be
fi tted with long length hose for treating
diffi cult to get at areas. |

Ragwort removal. |
|
Knapsack spraying for small areas or when
selecting individual weeds. |

Broadcasting of granules - i.e. slug pellets,
fertiliser etc. |

Bracken control on steep banks. |

I am fully insured and a member of the
National Register Of Sprayer Operators and
the National Pest Technicians Association.
In a typical job situation, after an initial
discussion a survey of the area requiring
treatment would be undertaken. This
would determine:
A Wildlife Survey: To check the area for
any protected species, watercourses or any
implications upon the environment.
Public Access: A full risk assessment
would be carried out to determine access to
any personnel, livestock or pets.
Correct Herbicide: By consulting a trained
agronomist the correct chemical would be
selected. Dose rate would be calculated and
sprayer calibrated.
Spraying records: Completed at the end of
the job.
